Marrowfat Pea Crop Report 11.07.24
So far this year, the weather has been much more favourable this year than in 2023, where the temperatures were too hot and caused a lot of crop damage and yield loss in June and a very wet July meant that the crop quality was damaged. A more positive scene is showing this year, however, with plants having more pods and peas per pod. As long as the weather stays good in July, there is quiet optimism around the harvest due in August.
There is some concern with the seed germination level of marrowfat peas. It was lower than expected and despite the good weather so far, the lower amount of plants due to seed germination could reduce crop yield slightly. To conclude, the crop is in good condition, but a later start and lower germination may mean that the overall amount of product will be less. All eyes are on the weather in the next few weeks, with the ideal being sunny, warm and not too hot.
