Market Update: Sultanas, total production in MT.
New crop forecast expected in mid-April
Turkey exported a total of 140,633 mt of sultanas and raisins since the start of the 2021/2022 season. The main buyer was the UK with 36,354 mt, followed by Germany (20,407 mt), Italy (13,760 mt), the Netherlands (12,973 mt) and France (8,611 mt). Last week, the export volume was 4,098 mt, compared to only 3,258 mt in the same week last year. (Mundus-Agri)
This means that exports from Turkey are doing as well as they did before the coronavirus pandemic began, despite the container shortage and higher freight costs. As far as the new crop is concerned, market players expect new information in mid-April; the cool weather has delayed the flowering period, which should reduce the risk of losses due to spring frost this year.
