Market update: Papaya and Pineapple

The summer crop and the daily output of fresh pineapple are approximately 5,000mt. Per day, the price of fresh pineapple is approximately down. Price tends to get soften during the end of the crop or in May/June, against this peak season, regardless of the significant incoming increase in the cost of plantations (against the incoming inflation of gasoline, fertilizers, and related pesticides). However, the main problem of limited labor remains present in all industrial sectors. Therefore, the limited production in the supply chain is still there despite a significant supply of fresh fruits.

The Thai government has announced the lift on partial subsidy towards the gasoline price, effectively by May 1st, 2022.

The shortage situation will be in the worst-case period, especially in Q3, which is generally considered the off-season period. The next earliest crop is expected to happen again in Nov onwards. However, due to the rise in most factors of plantation (such as 100% in fertilizer and pesticides) and the covid-19 situation during the last two years & few floods, the numbers of farmers tend to grow this fruitless (compared to the Y2021 crop) towards the coming.
