Lentils Market Snapshot Update
Large green lentil markets have gone a bit crazy over the past week and small greens have moved slightly as well. There has been some steep price fluctuations for international offers due to processors wanting slightly more margin more their produce. Processors are hoping that they will be able to sell the stocks of lentils they bought earlier in the week for slightly more margin.
What this means for the market is hard to say as the change was not fundamental in the longer term market outlook but rather a short term price hike created by a single processor. If growers remain firm now as a result, this could cause the whole market to be forced to firm up to these new, albeit higher, price levels. At this point, it's impossible to tell which way the market may go over the coming weeks. Either way, at the moment as a result of these games in the market, growers are extremely firm and they do recognize that we may not have enough stocks to make it until the new crop is harvested.
