Dried figs: not all exports reach their destinations

Mundus Agri. The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in Aydin pointed out in a statement that dried fig shipments from Turkey were rejected at the EU border. Meanwhile, the lack of good quality goods will cause price adjustments in the coming year.

Price corrections ahead

The lack of higher-quality goods caused farmgate prices for Turkish dried figs to increase this week. However, these increases are not yet reflected in export prices, as demand is low before the Christmas holidays. However, after the turn of the year at the latest, there should be price adjustments here as well.

206 MT of dried figs rejected.

Since the beginning of this season, 24,672 mt of dried figs and dried fig products have been shipped overseas, about 1,000 mt less than this time last year. Weekly exports are currently only slightly down on last year, with 1,551 mt exported recently compared to 1,614 mt in the same week last year.

The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in Aydin announced in a statement that despite thorough controls before export, taking into account the current EU requirements, it happens from time to time that deliveries are rejected at the EU border because there was something to complain about. As of 1 December 2022, 206 mt of the approximately 41,000 mt of dried figs exported in 2022 had been reported via the Rapid Alert System in Food and Feed (RASFF). In the same period in 2021, this was the case for 256 mt of 51,000 mt.
