Apricots: frost is a real fear for growers in Malatya

Malatya: After the apricot trees opened their blossoms due to the warm weather last week, growers are very worried about possible night frosts. The probability of these occurring is high in the coming days. 

Several weeks after the flowering phase had been delayed due to the cold weather in the growing regions, the trees opened their blossoms last week. The weather was temporarily spring-like warm, providing optimal conditions for the apricot trees. Still, growers report very low temperatures and a frost warning from 12-17 April at the beginning of the week. Should the feared night frosts occur, this could lead to considerable crop damage.
